"The federal government will seek proposals to develop a prototype for a nationwide health information network architecture, according to information posted Wednesday on a government Web site. The government also plans to assess state laws and business policies on privacy and security that hamper health information exchange, develop and test certification of electronic health records and create a process to harmonize standards in healthcare software applications." Full story here. Not a bad idea. Just that it raises a lot of questions, as did HIPAA. Questions like-- Who pays for it? And Who regulates it? And Who secures it? But I like the harmony part.
